First of all, thank you all for your tremendous support of our family and the pediatric pulmonary hypertension community. Through your generous support, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital and the Stollery Foundation Children’s Hospital of Edmonton, AB were able to bring together 23 children with pulmonary hypertension (PH) and their families for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Painted Turtle Camp. For many of these children, PH family (PHamily) camp was full of firsts. For two teenage campers, PHamily camp was their first chance to meet another teenager with PH. For other children, PHamily camp meant their first ever horseback ride or talent show. For parents, PHamily camp was a chance to meet other moms and dads who are managing their children’s complex care and to share their stories with people who understand what it’s like to live with a child with PH.
For many of the kids and their families, PHamily camp was a life altering experience. Proof that we are not alone and that when given support and accommodation, our children can do anything — from climbing the rock wall, to flying down the zip-line and even catching a fish. Going forward, our family is committed to continuing to support the Pediatric PH community and we hope you will join us. Planning for 2018 PHamily camp is well underway and we are working on multiple opportunities to support getting even more families to participate next year, so stay tuned.
